Construction mishap interrupts Long Island Rail Road
On Monday, January 13 a construction accident disrupted the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) service between New York City’s Jamaica, Queens, and Manhattan areas. The disruption lasted for over two hours, as signal cables were destroyed near the Harold Interlocking in the Sunnyside rail yard.
According to Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesperson, Marjorie Anders the railroad mishap occurred around 9:45 a.m. when a backhoe managed to damage the cables. No injuries were reported as a result of the accident.
