One worker dead after falling at a worksite in Manhattan
A construction worker was killed after falling approximately four stories at a construction site in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, ABC reported on Tuesday, August 25.
According to the report, at around 12:40 p.m., a 30-year-old worker was trying to cross a wooden board that bridged the gap over an elevator shaft at a construction site on Ninth Avenue between West 41st and West 42nd streets when he fell about four stories down. The worker was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to a hospital.
Slip and fall accidents remain on the list of the country’s top four causes of fatal accidents on construction sites. In 2013 alone, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) stated that 302 of the 828 total deaths recorded in the construction industry were associated with slip and fall incidents.
