Two New Yorkers Airlifted to Hospital after Construction Accident
Three people were injured in Tompkins County when two construction vehicles collided on a construction site. The construction crew was tasked with rebuilding a bridge along Bower Road in the town of Newfield. Thea accident happened just after 11 a.m. on September 16.
The accident was the result of a large fork truck losing an engine. The operator of the vehicle lost control of brakes and steering, continuing down a hill until colliding with a dump truck. Two construction workers and Newfield residents were injured, along with a Newfield local who was not affiliated with the construction site.
The resident and construction worker who were struck by the vehicle were airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital. Reports indicate that the two men are still in critical condition. The operator of the fork truck was transported to the hospital in an ambulance and only suffered minor injuries.
