Ladder-related falls among the leading causes of workplace fatalities, CDC reports
A study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of 2011 national data found that ladder-related falls are a leading cause of workplace injury and death across the country.
Published in the journal Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, the study concluded that 20% of workplace falls are associated with ladder use. The CDC also stated that in the last decade, 43% of fatal occupational falls were reported to be ladder-related.
The study also found that 81% of construction falls treated in emergency departments across the U.S. involve ladders.
The CDC stressed that construction workers are among those who are most prone to ladder-related falls.
