NYC Construction Accidents Continue to Rise
New York City continues its steady trend of increasing construction accidents for the fourth year in a row.
Recently the de Blasio administration released data indicating that construction related accidents are consistently rising once again for the 2016 year. According to the data, there were 526 accidents during the 12 month period from June 2015-2016. During the previous year from June 2014-2015, there were only 326 accidents occurring, indicating a 60% increase in construction-related accidents. Furthermore, while there has been an increase in construction workers during these two years, 2016 only saw an 8.8% increase in construction jobs, failing to provide a solution to the upward trend.
De Blasio has come constantly under attack for the persistent increase in construction accidents during his tenure as New York’s 109th Mayor, despite raising penalties for construction safety violations. Construction accidents frequently occur throughout the city and often lead to serious injuries or even death.
