In an initiative to open more nontraditional jobs up to women and get more women involved in the upcoming New York City bridge construction project, the state of New York has partnered with Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) NYC to provide jobs and training for women seeking a construction job.
NEW NYC will be starting training in April or May, so the women will be ready to begin working on building the Kosciuzsko bridge that should connect Brooklyn and Queens. According to the public affairs director for New York State Department of Transportation’s New York City division, Adam Levine, they are looking to recruit twenty or more women.
The bridge is a part of the NY Works Program to provide more infrastructure jobs to New Yorkers. By giving women the opportunity to participate, more female New York City residents will also have the ability to find work, says Williamsburg Councilman Stephen Levin.
While NEW NYC is providing training for these prospective construction workers, many employers provide inadequate training for their workers . As a result, far too many construction workers are injured while on the job, causing them serious harm and loss. For those who have experienced such an injury, our legal team at Hach & Rose, LLP, is prepared to help fight for compensation and justice.
