A Fort Greene construction zone was the site of a fatal workplace accident that claimed the life of one construction worker and critically injured another.
Reports on the construction accident reveal that five workers were located on the roof of a town house that was in the process of being built when cement was loaded onto the roof. The weight of the cement caused the building to weaken and an I-beam to break. Two of the construction workers fell through the opening in the roof and landed 40-feet below in the basement of the building.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene, and the workers were taken to two separate hospitals to be treated for their life-threatening injuries. A 67-year-old construction worker was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the other worker was said to be in critical condition. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is planning on investigating the deadly accident.
