Unstable soil collapsed at a work site in the Meatpacking District of New York City, killing a young construction worker who was buried in the incident, the New York Post reported on April 6.
At around 12:15 p.m., a 22-year-old worker stationed at a construction site on 9-19 19th Avenue was buried when unstable soil around a hole gave way. The construction worker was unresponsive when emergency crews arrived. He was immediately transported to Lenox Hill Hospital but later died of his injuries.
The police are currently investigating the incident. Meanwhile, the medical examiner has yet to release the exact cause of the worker’s death.
According to the Department of Buildings website, the agency already issued a stop work order at the site, citing unsafe conditions.
